How Online Poker is Stealing From You
It has happened to all of us at one time or another, you are playing your best poker, or trying to beat the odds and come out ahead every time. Unfortunately it usually doesn’t last and soon you find yourself down and out. The problem is, most of us tend to play the same way, continuing to throw money at the poker window in the hope of winning and coming out ahead. If played correctly there is a way to stop this happening to you and you can become a regular winner.
There are many different ways to go about gaining an advantage over your opponents. It is becoming a blackjack card counter and using basic strategy, which is always easy to learn. Then there are the advanced techniques which require a little bit of knowledge and some work. The good news is that once you learn the techniques you will never have to work again to gain an advantage over your opponents.
The easiest way to gain an edge is to use a properly designed statistical approach to the game. This is usually called tournament statistic and was developed by a man known as Ken Silver. Tournament statistics usually look at the wins and losses of a poker player and the hands that they play in order to discover an optimal strategy. This way you will know exactly when to increase your bets and when to cash out.
Most of the time you will learn that an opponent’s statistics are usually very close to your own. If you can identify the cases where your opponent is beat you can increase your bet to get him to fold, or in the event you have a very strong hand, you might want to commit your entire stack to the pot.
The important thing to remember with tournament statistics is that not every hand needs to be played as you would have it played. If you are holding pocket aces you should not bet aggressively against someone who has pocket deuces. Instead you should wait for the better hand and let your hand do the betting.
There are also some players who prefer to bet when they have a very good hand. If you would bet aggressively they might not get the cards they want and you might be able to win the pot. If you want to try this tactic it is best to first play tight and take home the pot with only minimal chips in play, or using your poker calculator to show your hand as the statander.
The problem with trying to get an edge with tournament statistics is that you can lose all of it in a single hand. If you are trying to eliminate the possibility of taking home the satellite prize by winning one of the four weekly tournaments for release to the public, you can possibly jeopardize your chances in an instant. You see, many of the tournaments only pay out the top three places, the third place winner might get afree entry into the next tournament which could be worth a lot more than the money you actually paid.
There is a better way to use statistics to your advantage. When you play poker you should be doing so with the intention of winning, not to just slightly increase your odds of winning. The people who win money in poker are the smart players and they know that every hand they play is one that they will win. They cannot win every hand, but they increase their chances and their odds of winning.
